Eumundi on Sunday

Well all weekend actually. We drove down on Friday afternoon and returned home to Valleyview on Sunday afternoon. We stayed at a beautiful Bed and Breakfast. Someday I will have a garden like this!

Eumundi is a small town about 2 hours from Hervey Bay and is the weekend home to an amazing artisan and farmers market There are hundreds of vendors from all over Queensland offering everything from fine jeweller to cheese! (Both of which came home with us). To Brenda and Joyce this meant Saturday SHOPPING! Chris was heroic in his role as Sherpa. Regrettably the wet weather continues and by late morning it was just bucketing down. Many of the vendors were flooded out and our shopping extravaganza was cut short - possibly this is a good thing. We returned to our B and B with a bottle of wine, a loaf of bread, cheeses and fruit. We imbibed. When we awoke from our naps and cleaned up, we headed to Joe's Watering Hole for pub food, beer and entertainment. We were promised "A Night at the Chelsea Hotel" and were imagining the stylings of Bob Dylan, Leonard Cohen and Janis Joplin. Not sooo much. But we did get three young Australian singer/songwriters whose work has been influenced by the older generation - and we enjoyed both their original offerings and the covers of our old favourites.

On Sunday, Joyce drove us home down the backroads and byways. No shortage of spectacular scenery that ranged from rolling farmland to rain forest to coniferous forest in very short order. (I digress slightly, but on the way to Eumundi Joyce steered us through a spectacular near-miss with two young kangaroo out for a Friday evening lark. One bounded onto the highway right in front of Joyce's car, toppled over and slid across the shoulder just out of the way of the car. Safe at home! Had he not slid, or had Joyce not braked at just the right moment, we would have had roo-steak for dinner. Well done JC!) With all the rain the country-side is spectacularly green. Gorgeous!
On Tuesday I fly to Adeliade where I will begin my trip on The Ghan ... said to be one of the great rail trips in the world. I travel from Adelaide to Alice Springs, where I spend a night and then join up with a camping trip (yes, guided) to Uluru (Ayer's Rock, but we are not supposed to say that any more), Kings Canyon and Kata Tjuda (the Olga's). Scorpions, spiders and snakes, here I come). Back to Alice Springs three days later and on to Darwin for an explore of this northern city. Hot, Hot, Hot. I'll be off-line for the next 10 days, but I'll be back late next week.

Don't make it rain in the desert again.

Hi Brenda!

Thanks for your running commentary and pictures of where you are travelling. Would you like to see pictures of Calgary through February? I can give you a weather update if you'd like...-21C this morning warming up to 1 degree this afternoon.

Kirk wants to know if you've heard of the Australian folk group "The Waifs." He's been listening to them non-stop on itunes since you left.

Have a great time on the next part of your most excellent adventure!

Love,
Michelle & Kirk
